낫다 (to be better) is an irregular verb: the stem 낫 becomes 나 before vowel endings: 나아요 (it’s better), 나은 것 (the better thing). This ‘s-irregular’ (ㅅ불규칙) also appears in 잇다→이어요, 짓다→지어요, 붓다→부어요.
